The late Belva L. Brown Brissett is the inspiration for huMAN huGs™. The mother of the creator, Melanie A. Nix, she is the inspiration for the line of cards that are designed to "hug" their readers with words of support, hope and compassion. The card messages are many of the words that Melanie shared with her mother during her battles with breast cancer.
A phenomenal woman with a beautiful spirit, Belva fought a brave and courageous battle with breast cancer and succumbed to the disease in 1990. She had three occurrences over a 12-year period and never let the disease stop her from enjoying life. She had an unparalleled zest for life and an appetite for new adventure. A woman with an infectious smile and unforgettable laugh, she had a "hug" for everyone and a positive and encouraging word, even during life's most difficult moments. A well-respected professional, she was the Senior Vice President - Regulatory Affairs for the National Association of Broadcasters and posthumously inducted into the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
Despite her full schedule, she was always active in her church and always found time to commit to several civic duties as well as volunteer for breast cancer outreach organizations. She co-founded the Breast Cancer Resource Committee, a breast cancer advocacy and outreach organization. Belva L. Brown Brissett was a humanitarian, pioneer, beloved friend and devoted mother. She left a powerful legacy. The cards are a tribute to her beautiful spirit, her positive approach to all of life's challenges and her legacy of hope and expectation that a cure is on the way!
